GREECE – Refugees camps on Lesbos
In May 2018, Pilar Buira Ferré, Catherine Habasque and Kilian Haselbeck travelled to the island of Lesbos to initiate a program of artistic and emotional support for residents of the refugee camps.
In an environment marked by uncertainty, isolation and prolonged inactivity — particularly among young men — movement and dance offer a constructive and grounded way to channel energy, reduce tension, and transform aggression into awareness, presence and self-control.
Any improvement in the emotional environment of the camps contributes to the well-being of the entire community — particularly women and children, who often bear the weight of instability and stress.
This initial experience lays the foundation for what would later become DFW’s continued commitment to Lesbos: using art, discipline and creative expression as tools for resilience, dignity and human connection.
