Congo – Surviving during Civil War

GOMA, CONGO

Over the past few years, Catherine Habasque has developed a meaningful connection with a group of young dancers from Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These young men, who contacted her, eager to learn, embody strength, discipline, creativity, and an extraordinary commitment to their community. Through regular exchanges, they have shown a rare combination of artistic passion, generosity, and resilience.

A visit and in-person exchange program had been planned, as they expressed a strong desire to learn, train, and expand their artistic horizons. However, due to the worsening civil conflict in the region, the project has had to be postponed.

In spite of these circumstances, our dialogue continues. Their courage and perseverance remain a profound source of inspiration, and we hold the hope that, when conditions allow, this collaboration will grow into a space of artistic sharing, empowerment, and renewed possibility.
